Margaritaville DM1000 is Excellent Machine! The best I've seen
This Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker DM1000 is the best that I've ever seen. At one point, I seriously considered buying the Island Oasis for $2500, as pricey as that is, just to have a good machine at home for entertaining...but then I found this thing, read all the reviews and figured, why not give it a shot for under $300? I'M SO GLAD I DID!
This thing has a powerful motor, and it's finished drinks are as good as you'll get out of any Island Oasis machine. It truly is dummy-proof and makes a professional bartender out of just about anyone. Follow written drink recipies or create your own. Tripping over your own great recipies is half the fun with this thing!
In the beginning, we though the drinks came out a bit watery, but due to the ice being shaven, then blended, the shaved ice would often melt down a bit, losing a bit of the "slushyness". We found that we ignored a few tips to actually freeze the blender jar (or at least refrigerate it for a while) before making drinks. This way, when the shaven ice hits the jar, it does not instantly start to melt. This is the secret to making a drink with the perfect consistency.
This machine is great at home, and we bought the carrying case for it as well so we can take it with us to our football tailgating parties and everything else. People have seen it in action and now request that we bring it with us to their events. I should start charging a rental fee and make my purchase money back on it!!!
If you don't have one of these...BUY ONE!!! It is great.
Frozen Margarita Maker Fantastic Drink Maker
If you like your frozen drinks smooth, this is the product for you. You just put some ice in the upper bin, your drink mix in the blender portion, decide how many drinks you want and flip a switch. Gone are the little chunks of ice that clog up the straw. All that is left is a very smooth smoothie for the kids or something a bit stronger for the adults. There are quite a few nice little features that really show some thought and not just a product quickly brought to market. There is a catcher in the rear for any ice melt so that it doesn't go into your drink and there is ample storage space for the cord within the machine so that the cord doesn't clutter up your counter. At this point, I have not a single complaint!
Wasting Away in Margaritaville DM1000
At first I was concerned that this was just a glorified blender. Its not. A blender chops up the ice and you tend to end up with watered-down drinks.
The Margaritaville DM1000 shaves ice from the reservoir on top and creates more of a coarse snow. Any water created in the shaving process drains into a tank in the back instead of down into your mix.
Be warned that this thing is very large though. When I put in on my kitchen counter I can't open the upper cabinet doors, so it will probably end up getting moved around alot if you don't have a designated bar-type area for it.
What I really like is the fact that all of the mix and blending goes on inside the jar, so there's really nothing else to clean when you're done. Just wash out the jar and empty the water tank in the back after the ice has melted. That's it.
I'm still playing with the recommended Margarita recipe. I've found that adding a splash of Sprite and a dash of sugar to the recipe in the Quick Start pamplet makes them taste more like what you'd expect in a typical Mexican restaurant. I've also started using the mix with all of the liquor and juice mixed in with pretty good results. Instead of measuring using the little shot glass, I've found that just filling up the jar with the pre-made mix until its about a quarter-inch above the blades at the bottom and then setting the number of drinks to 3 seems to give a pretty good consistency.
The only thing that you might want to keep in mind is that the blending jar is kinda small. I've found that setting the number of drinks to 3 (the maximum) fills two standard Margarita glasses, so be prepared to be making a lot of batches if using this for a party.
If you like Margaritas to start off your weekend but don't like spending $7 for each one at the Mexican restaurant I would definitely recommend Margaritaville DM1000.
