Like a few other reviewers, I couldn't get up the nerve to spend so much money on a machine that makes something which can essentially be done in a blender. Plus, it seemed so one dimensional. However, having finally made the purchase (and putting up with relentless teasing from my hubby), I want to tell you that I LOVE Frozen Margarita Maker ! I thought I would store it on the bar downstairs, but I think it's found a permanent home in the kitchen. It's very easy to use and does exactly what you would expect it to do. It has a kick-butt motor to drive the blender blades and it shaves the ice to perfection. I also use Frozen Margarita Maker to make nonalhoholic drinks and smoothies. Honestly, you'll find lots of uses for it if you buy it. One thing I learned to do soon after firing it up was to fine-tune my drinks. If they need a little more ice, no worries. I just hit the toggle switch for "ice only" and then give it a couple of bursts of "blend only". Or, if the drink is already poured, you can just hold your glass under the dispenser part and shave ice directly into your glass. Easy as pie.
Finally, there's the entertainment value. It's a lot of fun to use at parties. Everyone wants to play with Frozen Margarita Maker. And I am sure you will find lots of creative uses.
If you want a little smoother consistency, make your daquiaris or magaritas ahead of time and put them in your freezer until ready for use. They'll be even better.

We love our Frozen Margarita Maker
We love our Margaritaville DM1000, it makes the best frozen concoctions this north of the equator. It has helped get us through the wind storms and snow. It could be a bit bigger, it only makes three good sized drinks at a time, but everybody loves watching it work. It also comes with a great drink recipe and party planner.
I purchased the Margaritaville Maker as a birthday gift for my fiance. I was a little leary on how different the drinks would be than a standard blender... I was so wrong! The consistency of the drinks is perfect just like you would get in a restaurant. Yes, the machine is a lot of money, but so worth it! The only downfall is that the glass pitcher needs to be bigger (because drinks go real quick).

I was somewhat on the fence about this item especially when I saw the price in other catalogs. Amazon had it cheaper (like usual). I decided to try the item and return if not happy. I was blown away by how good the drinks were. This is an excellent frozen drink maker for use during the hot summer months. It's pretty much idiot proof. You follow the instructions and it makes great drinks. The only downside is that all drinks must conform to the standard proportion recipe. Stray from it, like my wife did once, and it makes lousy drinks. Follow the instructions, and the drinks are flawless. The price seems somewhat high. However, the quality of the item justifies the price.
Frozen Margarita Machine is Excellent Machine! The best I've seen
This Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker DM1000 is the best that I've ever seen. At one point, I seriously considered buying the Island Oasis for $2500, as pricey as that is, just to have a good machine at home for entertaining...but then I found this thing, read all the reviews and figured, why not give it a shot for under $300? I'M SO GLAD I DID!
This thing has a powerful motor, and it's finished drinks are as good as you'll get out of any Island Oasis machine. It truly is dummy-proof and makes a professional bartender out of just about anyone. Follow written drink recipies or create your own. Tripping over your own great recipies is half the fun with this thing!
In the beginning, we though the drinks came out a bit watery, but due to the ice being shaven, then blended, the shaved ice would often melt down a bit, losing a bit of the "slushyness". We found that we ignored a few tips to actually freeze the blender jar (or at least refrigerate it for a while) before making drinks. This way, when the shaven ice hits the jar, it does not instantly start to melt. This is the secret to making a drink with the perfect consistency.
This machine is great at home, and we bought the carrying case for it as well so we can take it with us to our football tailgating parties and everything else. People have seen it in action and now request that we bring it with us to their events. I should start charging a rental fee and make my purchase money back on it!!!
If you don't have one of these...BUY ONE!!! It is great.
